Copernicus Environmental Initiatives

The environment has always been an important consideration at Copernicus. From day one we have always strived to do the right thing when it comes to environmental responsibility. Some of our environmental initiatives include:

Trees and Schools

2009 was the first year Copernicus began the Tree Donation Program for Earth Day, where we donated approx. 1200 saplings to each student and teacher at local schools. And for the 2010 Earth Day, we provided over 2100 saplings to six local schools. We would like to grow that in 2011 to ten local schools.

ECO Friendly Products

Our focus is on innovative, teacher driven and child safe educational products while working to shrink our ecological footprint. Re-usable products such as our Write & Wipe Overlay, which reduces paper waste and our Re-Write Labels, are a few of our eco-friendly products. Our steel is coated with a durable baked-on powder coat finish that is more environmentally responsible than conventional painting.

Recycled Milk bottles

We are faced with balancing innovation, sustainability and recyclability with affordability, quality, value, and style. And we are proud to announce that we now have recycled content in our Royal® Tub Family. The following colors Red, Blue and Green in styles CC4068, CC4069, CC4070, CC4071 and CC4074 will contain 50% of recycled milk bottles. These eco-friendly tubs will continue help keep you organized as well as helping our earth.

Whether you have one of our products in your classroom, or are considering any, we would love to hear from you.

Ecological Land Management

Canadian Wildlife Federation

Since 1991 Copernicus has planted over 50,000 trees on approximately 90 acres of property with habitat restoration and wildlife habitat being the primary objective. This area consists of dense forest with open grasslands for bird and insect habitat.

In the Spring of 2009 with the help from Natural Landscapes, Copernicus had 150 sq. meters of lawn converted to a naturalization area for the purpose of decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and improving wildlife habitat. This area will be expanded each year until the entire lawn of 1/4 acre is converted into a naturalization area. In August 2009, we were awarded a Backyard Habitat Certification from the Canadian Wildlife Federation for outstanding efforts in helping wildlife through the creation of habitat. Some of our environmental initiatives include Ecological Land Management, ECO Friendly Products and Waste Reduction.
